style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cervical,\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ovarian,\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uterine,<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vaginal And\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vulvar.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A sixth type of gynecologic REMEMBER\u2014<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cervical cancer is a disease in which cancer cells form in the tissues of the cervix.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the major risk factor for cervical cancer.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are usually no signs or symptoms of early cervical cancer but it can be detected early with regular check-ups.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Signs and symptoms of cervical cancer include vaginal bleeding or discharge, and lower abdomen or low back pain.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Treatment depends on the stage and may be advised for Surgery or Radiation treatment with Chemotherapy<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cervical cancer usually develops slowly over time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before cancer appears in the cervix, the cells of the cervix go through changes known as <\/span><b>dysplasia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in which abnormal cells begin to appear in the cervical tissue. After years, these\u00a0 abnormal cells may turn into cancer cells and start\u00a0 growing\u00a0 and spreading\u00a0 deep\u00a0 into the cervix and to surrounding areas.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Risk factors for cervical cancer include:<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being\u00a0 infected with human papillomavirus (HPV). This is the most important risk factor for cervical cancer.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Giving birth to many children.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smoking cigarettes.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using oral contraceptives\u00a0 for a long time.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Low Immunity&#8212; The body&#8217;s ability to fight HPV infection may be lowered by\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">being infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">taking medicine to help prevent organ rejection after a transplant.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being sexually active at a young age.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having many sexual partners.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Older age is a main risk factor for most cancers. The chance of getting cancer increases as you get older.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><b>Signs and Symptoms of Cervical cancer-<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vaginal bleeding\u00a0 (including bleeding after sexual intercourse), Post menopausal bleeding<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unusual vaginal discharge.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pain in lower abdomen or back<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pain during sexual intercourse.<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TREATMENT OPTIONS\u2014<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Depend on the following:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The stage of the cancer.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The type of cervical cancer.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The patient&#8217;s desire to have children.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The patient\u2019s age.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><b>Diagnosis and Staging workup-<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One or more of the following tests and procedures may be used in the staging process:<\/span><\/p><p><b>Biopsy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014Done generally as a OPD procedure, where a chunk of tissue is removed from the growth, and examined under a microscope.<\/span><\/p><p><b>CT scan (CAT scan):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A procedure that makes a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body, taken from different angles. A dye may be injected into a vein or swallowed to help the organs or tissues show up more clearly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>PET scan (positron emission tomography scan):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A procedure to find malignant tumor cells in the body. A small amount of radioactive glucose (sugar) is injected into a vein. The PET scanner rotates around the body and makes a picture of where glucose is being used in the body. Malignant tumor cells show up brighter in the picture because they are more active and take up more glucose than normal cells do.<\/span><\/p><p><b>MRI (magnetic resonance imaging):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A procedure that uses a magnet, radio waves, and a computer to make a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>Ultrasound exam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: A procedure in which high-energy sound waves (ultrasound) are bounced off internal tissues or organs and make echoes. The echoes form a picture of body tissues called a sonogram.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>Chest x-ray<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: An x-ray of the organs and bones inside the chest. An x-ray is a type of energy beam that can go through the body and onto film, making a picture of areas inside the body.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Cystoscopy:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 A procedure some times needed to look inside the bladder and urethra to check for tumour invasion in the bladder. A cystoscope is inserted through the urethra into the bladder.
